The 20th Merlin meeting - our anniversary tour
The meeting point was the Victor's Residenz Hotel in Gummersbach.
Twelve Merlins travelled to the event from up to 500 km away.
We welcomed both old and new faces. After a few hours, Utmar, who was there for the first time, realised: We're organising the next tour! We had to put the brakes on him, he won't be allowed to take part until 2026.... We will not forget it. In the evening we had potato pancakes until we could eat no more.
We set off at 9am on Friday. The first stop was at Burg Castle, a hilltop castle from the 12th century. In addition to a coffee, there was enough time to take the chairlift or visit the castle grounds. We then continued through the Bergisches Land region to lunch under the Müngsten Bridge, a steel bridge well worth seeing and the highest railway bridge in Germany. After a good lunch, we continued through the beautiful Bergisches Land region to enjoy coffee and large cream puffs at Kaffee Heuser in Odenthal. Unfortunately, we were caught in an intense rain shower on the last two kilometres to the hotel.

Saturday didn't start until 9.30am. It was the day of the dams. We travelled past the Versetalsperre and Oestertalsperre reservoirs to the Atta Cave, one of the largest and most beautiful stalactite caves in Germany. After visiting the cave, a sumptuous snack table awaited us. Refreshed, we travelled through the Oberberg region, past the Biggetal dam, to the local history museum in Bergneustadt. On the way back to the hotel, we made a stop at the Rengser Mühle mill. After all, it's better to drive with coffee and cake. We passed the Aggertalsperre, Genkeltalsperre and Lingesetalsperre on the way back to the hotel.
Once again it was a great and interesting tour and the weather, apart from a short rain shower, was perfect. No accidents, nobody lost and only one breakdown (broken throttle cable) - what more could we want?
We would like to thank Dieter and Susannah for organising this meeting
