English Merlins usually had a 4 cylinder. German Merlins were always fitted with a V6 from Cologne production. A modern 4-cylinder engine with direct injection was sometimes installed in the Sierra-based Merlins.

Gearbox:
4 speed gearbox
4 cylinder engine sometimes retrofitted with - 5 gearbox "T9".

Chassis:
Rear with rigid axle and spring/damper/panhard rod.

Brake:
Disc brake at the front, drum brake at the rear;
partly with brake booster.

850 kg

A Ford Sierra could be chosen as an alternative base for the late Merlin. In some cases, an engine with direct injection was also installed. In this case, the rear axle was usually also fitted with independent suspension.
With a kerb weight of just 850 kg, a Merlin is sufficiently equipped for a classic car, even by today's standards. It only becomes an obstacle to traffic if you enjoy the scenery too much.

Dry weather,
natural engine sound,
wind around your nose,
beautiful country roads and
a Merlin!

That's all you need to relax and have fun.
